Duties
As a Physician (Public Health) you will:
Serve as senior medical advisor to the Division Director and the Science Officer and other CDC senior leadership on both national and international public health medical program activities.
Serve as a special projects officer and conducts comprehensive research, review and analyses on a wide variety of public health medical programs to provide a wide variety of complex staff papers that address complex multi-functional issues.
Serve as a leading authority and integrates knowledge and experience of public health medical programs and policies to provide guidance on cross cutting procedural and multilayered and multifaceted policy issues to other components of the agency and other governmental agencies; resolve problems, modify procedures; develop and interpret complex policies to meet new and novel conditions; and defend public health policies before representatives of other governmental agencies, State and local governments, private industry, academia, consumer organizations, Congress, and the scientific community.
Participate in collaborative efforts within CDC, other Federal, states, local agencies, private and non-private organizations, and academic institutions to determine the areas in which the Division can make the greatest contribution to improvements in the capacity of public health delivery and information systems.
Perform non-clinical duties involving the evaluation of medical research or the identification of causes or sources of disease or disease outbreaks.
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work, when necessary.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine/equivalent degree from foreign medical schools must provide education & medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the U.S. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the U.S. is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the U.S. & graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
LICENSURE: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, & unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
GRADUATE TRAINING: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, must have at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, & fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the U.S. or Canada.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
GP-15: 5 total years of graduate training or equivalent experience & training
In addition to the above Basic Qualification, the following Minimum Qualification must also be met.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GP-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GP-14 grade level, which must include providing direct medical advice in the planning, direction and coordination of national programs to maintain and improve the health of people by promoting health prevention.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
