The position works in the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) as the NCC Coordinator located in a Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The employee works with Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues related to the N&FS systems as they arise throughout the medical center.
Duties
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06.
This position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) of the VA Medical Center in Orlando, Florida, serving as the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) Coordinator, and works with N&FS information systems. The NCC Coordinator is responsible for maintain the systems and resolving issues.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Resolves information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems.
Develops and updates nutrient databases on nutrition analysis of menu items served.
Makes menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) program)
Troubleshoots and resolves all electronic or paper menu issues.
Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets.
Provides training and orientation for all N&FS employees.
Serves as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff.
Participates in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions, and preparation of reports.
Handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, M-F rotating 8 hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Rotating Weekend/Holidays

Physical Requirements: Routine work requires repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive phone, keyboard and computer mouse use, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, intermittent/non-strenuous ambulation around all areas of the medical center, and carrying light items such as papers, books, portable scales, and food trays. Occasionally, duties may require the movement of audio visual equipment and/or classroom area organization and driving an automobile
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
- Specialized Experience for GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the Health Technician - Nutrition Communication Center Coordinator position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Provide assistance with basic computer systems, programs and/or software applications
Assist with training staff on computer systems/software and security issues
Collect data to assist with preparing reports.
Possess effective communications skills
Perform duties that supports medical and/or health personnel
OR
- Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. Completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university, leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation is considered qualifying education.
OR
- Combination of Experience and Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

- Education: Education generally not applicable at GS-06 level. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

- Combination of Experience and Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-06 level. (Note: To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)
