This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at the Navy Hospital, Pensacola Florida. Pensacola is the westernmost city in the Florida Panhandle. Pensacola is home to several beautiful beaches that are found all along Florida's expansive coastline.

Duties

Provide nursing care support for and assistance to patients with varying degree of illness, such as providing physical and psychological support, explaining procedures and treatments. Screen patients to obtain and review medical histories and updates medical records. Assist in triage and advises UCC Physician/Nurse of patient priorities and imminent medical concerns. Provide Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and other medical care according to established treatment protocols and as directed by nursing or medical provider. Take measurements, temperatures, blood pressure; make gross visual observations about the patient's medical status. Assist the UCC nurse in ensuring that documentation and vital signs are completed per policy while the patient is within the UCC. Perform all necessary tests including but not limited to: vital signs, EKG's, spirometer, vision exam etc. Calibrate, troubleshoot and provide appropriate maintenance of clinic medical equipment as part of shift check.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance for the duration of employment.
• Maintain current provider status for Basic Life Support Certification.
• Certified Emergency Medical Technician - Basic at either the state or National level or Certified Medical Assistant.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call "basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• A physical is required for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing specialized medical technician support which directly impacts physical and psychosocial well-being of patients seeking urgent care. (2) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses and conducting examinations such as patient vital signs, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Certification: Certified Emergency Medical Technician - Basic at either the state or National level or Certified Medical Assistant. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
