Employee will serve as the Lead Recreation Assistant located at the Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Iowa Healthcare System in Omaha, NE, under the leadership of the Associate Director of Patient Care Services.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. Major Duties listed but not limited to: Solves complex problems related to Complementary Integrative Health (CIH) modalities, working with Whole Health Partners and Whole Health Coaches in adapting and modifying personal health plans, activities, and procedures as a result of changing medical conditions. Coordinates the setup of the Wellbeing clinic for Tai Chi, Yoga, Qigong, and Meditation making sure staff has the equipment to supports scheduled events and activities. Establishes daily work assignments for wellbeing staff in accordance with workflow at the Wellbeing Center and at community sites who have signed MOU's (Memorandum of Understanding). Provides time estimates on the completion of work assignments and reporting the need for adjustments to the Program Manager. Coordinates orientation of new employees in accordance with established standard operating procedures and policies established to provide safe care to veterans participating in Whole Health programs. Makes sure that workspaces are clean and that infection control practices are being followed on any equipment required during CIH programs. Actively guides Veterans in the exploration of core elements of personal health planning through individual and group-based programs. Assists with treatment plans for Veterans focused on physical and behavioral interventions based on current scientific knowledge and research that improves quality of life and reduce risk for chronic disease, or that reverse or slows progression of chronic conditions. Evaluates current health behaviors and assists with development of customized personal health plan in conjunction with the veteran's personal health goals. Instructs Veterans on the safe use of Tai Chi, Yoga, and Qigong equipment; ensures the safety of patients during all activities on and off station. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal Service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities. Teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities. Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service. Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities. Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children). Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop. Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility. Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. In addition to the individual occupational requirements above for entry level positions, specialized experience for this GS-7 grade includes adapting and modifying personal health plans, activities, and procedures; coordinating the setup of the clinic for Tai Chi, Yoga, Qigong, and Meditation making sure staff has the equipment to support scheduled events and activities. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed one full year of Graduate education, or an internship meets the specialized experience required. Education/internship must be directly related to the work of the position, i.e., recreation or physical education. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of graduate education (in excess of 6 months) and specialized experience meets total experience requirements. AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. A Quality Ranking Factor* has also been requested by the facility to help determine which of the basically qualified applicants are likely to be better qualified for a position. The quality ranking factor for this position is: Preferred: ATCQGA Certified Tai Chi Instructor Level l or equivalent (150 hours documented hours of formal Tai Chi training,); Qigong instructors: Level I Qigong Instructor certified by the National Qigong Association, or equivalent. AND Certified Yoga Alliance e-RYT 200 (experienced registered yoga teacher) or equivalent program (200hr hour certification plus 1000+ documented teaching hours), or equivalent. (CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED) *Quality Ranking Factors are skills, knowledge, abilities, or other worker characteristics which could be expected to result in superior performance on the job. Quality ranking factors will not be used for screening but may be used as ranking criteria. Applicants with higher proficiency levels may rank above those with lower proficiency levels on a quality ranking factor. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Some assignments, the work involves regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged walking or standing. The work requires specific common physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
