This position is located the Colorado River Service Unit, Peach Springs, AZ. Position serves as a Medical Technician responsible for the application, modification, and adaptation of analytical methods and procedures in the performance of a variety of tests/examinations of human tissue, fluids, and/or other substances in the clinical laboratory. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Duties

Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory tests/examinations per requests by Medical Staff for use in clinical diagnosis, patient screening, monitoring patient therapy and status and other authorized purposes. Performance of standardized procedures in accordance with established methodology manuals, technical references and precedents. Withdraws appropriate quantities of blood by vein punctures and capillary puncture. Performs preventive maintenance, periodic inspection and performance testing of equipment and instruments together with the maintenance of appropriate records.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Individual Occupational BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): For positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-06 One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: performing a variety of standardized tests and examinations under normal technical supervision; following written procedures which provide detailed instructions on each step of the assigned test and examinations including the techniques, procedures, stains, reagents, chemicals, temperatures, measurements, controls to use and observe, machine settings, etc.; performing phlebotomy services; determining correct blood specimen for tests ordered; and adhering to quality control procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07 One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at lease the GS-06 level in the Federal service as obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: a thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices appropriate to medical technology and their practical application to clinical laboratory work. Skill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform recurring tests and analyses. Understanding of related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy and their relationship to medical technology. OR Completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
