The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is May-September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 19, 2024. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 01/26/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

These positions are located in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, in the Division of Interpretation & Education. Performs lifeguard service during assigned tours of duty, including search and rescue, lifesavings, and preventative life guarding. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Uses a variety of techniques such as ratification respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid. Notifies emergency medical services and/or appropriate personnel for more serious accidents/injuries. Provides basic first aid for minor injuries such as cuts, insect stings, strains, etc. Prepares incident reports and maintains records as necessary. Inspects and is responsible for the condition and storage of the equipment assigned. Monitors pool facility for illegal, unsafe, or harmful activities. Resolves minor infractions. Contacts Rangers when unable to resolve situations. Assists Rangers in investigations regarding injuries or violations in and around the pool facility. Provides minor maintenance of pool area including litter collection and keeping the swimming pool area clean. Inspects and provides minor grounds keeping on the playground area, volleyball field, and picnic pavilion for safety and general conditions. Provides basic information to visitors concerning the Recreation Area and surrounding areas. Refers visitors to the visitor center or ranger staff when unable to answer questions. May assist campground personnel during periods of when pool is closed due to weather conditions or maintenance.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/26/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs lifeguard duties and applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications: Multimedia, Standard or Advanced First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Include a copy of the certifications or if in the process please note this on your application/resume. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by their tentative first date of employment will not be allowed to start. EXPERIENCE: There is no minimum work experience requirement at the grade level of this announcement. EDUCATION: There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
