Duties
Implement plans and procedures as required to ensure continuity of air traffic control services.
Directs the pilot to maneuver the aircraft to keep it clear of other aircraft in the area.
Provide radar traffic advisories, directions, suggested headings, information and instructions to aircraft operating in Class D surface area.
Relay weather warnings and advisories to aircraft in the local area.
Provide approved separation between aircraft operating on the runway movement areas and helipads/rotor wing landing areas.
Control aircraft movement by use of radar, radio and telephone within Class D airspace, restricted area and at Pinion Canyon Maneuver site.
Maintain a continuous radio watch of all assigned and emergency frequencies.
Responsible for sequencing, spacing, and issuing clearance and control instructions to aircraft operating in Class D airspace.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance
- This position requires the incumbent to pass FAA Class II or Army Class IV flight physical pre-employment and annually thereafter.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license
- AW DoD policy under DoD Directive 1400.25, this is a covered ATC position with a maximum age for entry
- This position has been designated as Inclement Weather Essential. You must make every attempt to report to duty and remain on duty during adverse weather conditions.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- This position is subject to rotational shifts, changes in duty hours and is subject to being on call based on situational requirements.
- This position may require travel up to 25% of the time.
- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations..
- This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
- Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.

Specialized experience: One year specialized experience that demonstrated experience issuing control instructions and advice to pilots in the vicinity of airports to assure proper separation of aircraft and to expedite safe and efficient movement, act decisively under stressful situations and maintain alertness over sustained periods of pressure, coordinate plans and actions with pilots and other controllers, and use judgement to select and take the safest and most effective course of action from among several available choices.
Special Qualifications Requirements: Successful completion of recognized school on Air Traffic Control or Current Federal Aviation Administration rating.
MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Employees hired for the first time ("originally hired") into covered GS-2152 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) is 36. An employee originally hired into a covered ATC position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches age 36 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment
