Duties

You will determine the tools, machinery, and equipment needed to complete carpentry work projects. You will use wood or wood substitutes to construct structural items (e.g., building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases). You will plan and lay out carpentry work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, or building codes. You will repair wood items or wood substitute items (e.g., framework, trusses, rafters) to maintain functionality.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a duty cell phone and a duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.
  • May be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.

Qualifications

Work independently performing the full range of journey level Masonry and carpentry tasks in the construction and repair of a wide range of facilities as described in the position description. Has a thorough knowledge of all safety requirements to erect staging scaffolding and work platforms. Can obtain certification for installation of scaffolding. Determines and uses special precautionary techniques, personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection equipment. Able to construct and finish all types masonry (brick, block, stones and concrete). Must have knowledge and ability to operate masonry power and tools, such as jackhammers, demolition tools, magnesium floats, edger, joiner, and bull floats. Able to install and finish sheet rock walls. Can building concrete forms. Installs doors and windows. Knowledge of various types of structural building materials and laminates. Must be able to work with fiberglass building insulation to insulate attics and stud walls. Must have knowledge and ability to operate carpentry power and hand tools, and shop tools.
