This position is located on the Nebraska National Forest in Chadron, NE.
The incumbent serves as a principal assistant performing work in support of the unit's recreation program and is responsible for implementing both annual and long-term work plans for developed recreation sites (campgrounds, day use sites, recreation residences) both developed and dispersed.

Duties
Provide recommendations for long-term needs for management of recreation resources.
Report information about visitor usage to guide in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction projects.
Count and/or reconcile collection fees at recreation sites.
Inspect recreation area use to enforce compliance with the management plan by issuing or requesting issuance of citations.
Patrol district roads, trails, or waterways to determine whether visitor use is in accordance with recreation plans and regulations and report any issues to supervisor.
Report instances of non-compliance with provisions of special use permits.
Monitor work done under contracts with standard provisions and interpret provisions for contractors.
Recommend changes to improve contracts to meet long-term needs for management of recreation resources.
Identify safety hazards and then repair, remove, or replace portions of facilities using equipment and tools.
Repair items such as toilets, road closure gates, hand pumps, picnic tables, fire rings, barriers, and trash receptacles in developed recreational areas.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
FOR THE GS-07: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Examples of specialized experience include: Served as the point of contact with community organizations and interest groups to generate utilization of forest recreation facilities; assisted in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects in accordance with program management objectives and policies; served as an inspector and/or contracting officer's representative on service contracts insuring work is completed properly; managed all aspects of Special Use Permit administration for activities within undeveloped and developed areas of the unit.

Have successfully completed one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position (i.e. forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position) and the education was obtained at an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (i.e. forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position) and specialized experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
