You will serve as a Work and Family Life Consultant in the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) of PORTSMOUTH NSY. NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY.

Duties

You will interview and assess clients' needs in areas that may include but not limited to deployment, relocation, family member employment, life skills, personal financial management, transition assistance, and emergency preparedness/response. You will evaluate and interpret data received from interviews. You will provide advice, guidance and additional referral options to clients. You will develop referral policies and procedures between FFSC, the base, military and civilian agencies, and may draft memoranda of understanding to formalize agreements and roles. You will conduct deployment support services to include pre- mid- and post-educational briefings. You will assist clients with personal financial readiness, money management, debt liquidation, and consumer affairs. You will facilitate and conduct Transition Assistance Program (TAP) components related to the separating of military members and/or family members. You will perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing individualized counseling services to Service members and their families; 2) Assessing needs and concerns of clients and determining appropriate referral services and options; 3) Developing or assisting in developing course curricula and preparing accompanying materials to deliver standardized curriculum training; and 4) Designing and/or establishing effective ongoing public information, marketing, and public relations programs to stimulate military community interest and awareness of financial planning, consumer affairs services and issues. Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

or

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree

or

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
