This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Supervisor responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a force of personnel engaged primarily with the preparation of structural designs, plans and specifications, and cost estimates for flood control and navigation structures.
Duties
Plan and assigns work, set priorities, advises employees on program goals and objectives, and makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate employees.
Develops performance standards and appraises work of employees.
Counsels' employees on work and management policies.
Responsible for accomplishment of engineering commitments as documented in Project Management Plans.
Performs the more difficult tasks in structural design of locks, floodgates, floodwalls, pumping stations, dams, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Temporary travel (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- A current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) will be required at entry and must be maintained for continued employment.
- One-year probationary period may be required to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties.

Basic Education Requirement :
Engineer - GS-0810 Series
AND
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience leading a multi-discipline engineering team engaged in executing structural engineering designs for civil works projects such as, floodwalls, floodgates, pump stations, locks, drainage structures, and bridges, AND 2) Experience developing design documentation and reviewing design documentation prepared by others, AND 3) Experience setting priorities for a multi-discipline engineering team; AND 4) Experience communicating engineering rationale to higher authorities and non-federal entities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)
