This position is supervised by the Director of Environmental Health Services and is located within the Office of Environmental Health and Engineering, Billings Area Office, Billings, MT. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Area Injury Prevention Specialist.
Duties
Assist the Director of Environmental Health Services in planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the Environmental Health Program for the Billings Area.
Responsible for the development, management and direction of the Billings Area community based injury prevention program on behalf of the Billings Area Office of Environmental Health and Engineering Programs.
Will sponsor the injury prevention workshop and training annually.
Work closely with Area tribal governments and departments, federal, state, and local government agencies. A working relationship will be established with local community injury prevention communities to provide expertise, technical assistance, and consultation to expand capacity to improve or eliminate impediments to safer communities.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree, and that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in a science or any combination of sciences directly related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science);
OR
Four years of experience in inspectional, investigational, technical support, or other responsible work that provided a knowledge and a fundamental understanding of, and the ability to use, environmental health principles, methods, and techniques equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants for positions at grades GS-7 and above must have the amounts of education and/or experience required for the grade level listed below -
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS THE GS-12 GRADE LEVEL:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: analyzing substances to determine contamination or the presence of disease, or resolving environmental health problems through collection, tabulation, and evaluation of environmental sanitation data and development and implementation of plans to eliminate or control environmental health hazards.;
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: The following Selective Placement Factor has been determined to be essential for the position: Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of Environmental Health as evidence by a professional registration through a recognized organization or state as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS).
