The purpose of the position is to supervise and provide nursing direction/care to the youth in treatment at the YRTC, including providing clinical supervision and guidance to team of employees providing inpatient adolescent substance use, behavioral health and co-occurring disorders care and responsible for the provision of care to a patient to youth. Position reports to the Director of Nursing.
Duties
Provides direct residential nursing services, including 1) screens patients and elicits patient history; 2) assesses needs and refers for care; 3) coordinates medications with pharmacy; 4) supervises medication administration for licensed and/or certified staff Operates medical equipment; 5) records observations, assessment and intervention on patient's medical records; and 6) provides and assist in the provision of emergency treatment.
Assists with the program planning for the nursing activities.
Develops nursing policies and procedures.
Participates in quality improvement activities for nursing.
Participates in meeting accreditation standards.
Serves on planning committees.
Ensures medical/nursing documentation and activities for admission, during treatment, and discharge are completed, including coordinating medical/dental appointments.
Clinical supervision of Psychiatric Technician and Social Service Assistants on a rotating shift schedule.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Example of Professional Nursing experience:Applies the patient care and medical history, the nature of the illness or disease, provide clinical supervision and guidance to team of employees providing inpatient adolescent substance use, behavioral health and co-occurring disorders care, and applies subject matter expertise of ambulatory nursing services and involves assessing, planning, and implementing the program.

Education
This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. For GS-11: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
