About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Administration, Ambulatory Care Administration Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Code disease and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures in a wide range of ambulatory settings and specialties. Ensure coding is performed in a manner which allows input of data into the computer system. Oversee coding function for the ambulatory Data System and train other personnel on proper, accurate and current coding practices. Perform qualitative analysis to ensure accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data. Contact appropriate medical staff members to rectify inconsistencies, deficiencies and discrepancies in medical documentation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a coding certification from either the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes Coding disease and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures and specialties and translating patient diagnoses and medical procedures in accordance with the current International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Clinical Modification; American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT); Health Care Financing Administration Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS); Physicians' Desk Reference; and Department of Defense unique codes.
