This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Accounting Technician you will be responsible for providing accounting support for the Finance Division to meet the education goals and objectives of Haskell Indian Nations University.

Duties

As a Accounting Technician GS-0525-7/8, your typical work assignments may include the following: Responsible for the disbursement of all student funds received by the university. Responsible for reviewing accounts payable documents and verifying data that is inputted into the Accounting System. Reviews travel vouchers and notifies offices of any corrections required prior to final approval. Responsible for oversight of budget to meet with Divisions on a regular basis to discuss budget transfers as well as preparing a spend plan. Maintaining the Budget Monitoring File (including Grants) daily for all divisions by assigning a Purchase Requisition Number, logging data into Monitoring File to determine the amount requested is within budget to include pending and actual amounts. Examines accounting documents and ensures that each has appropriate approvals, correct data, and proper appropriation citation; ensures that all discrepancies are researched and corrected and verifies that a clear and concise audit trail exists. Provides detailed statements to each division/department who have been assigned to maintain budgets for all outstanding balances and have the ability to forecast budget on a monthly basis.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-7: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Assist with disbursing funds into appropriate accounts; reviewing travel vouchers; maintaining computerized ledgers; collecting and compiling accounting data to prepare subsidiary reports; act as billing/collection agent using the Comprehensive Academic Management System (CAMS), Financial and Business Management System (FBMS) or similar accounting systems. GS-8: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Possess knowledge of accounting, budgetary, regulations, and practices related to financial management functions; Grant Management; Serve as Primary Cashier; disbursing funds to appropriate accounts; reviewing travel vouchers; maintaining computerized ledgers; collecting and compiling accounting data to prepare subsidiary reports; act as billing/collection using the Comprehensive Academic Management System (CAMS), Financial and Business Management System (FBMS) or similar accounting systems. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
