Duties

You will analyze operating conditions as shown by indicating and recording meters and gauges, reflecting load changes, steam temperature and pressure, flow of fuel, steam, air, flue gas conditions, and other controls. You will adjust equipment as necessary for efficient operation. You will track the plant's efficiency by using fuel specifications, steam tables and other guides. You will maintain operational logs and computes data for boiler room log sheet. You will inspect safety valves and automatic safety devices for flame extinction, automatic ignition, low water cut out and high pressure cut out. You will locate sources of trouble when visual inspection or meters indicate malfunctioning equipment or dangerous conditions. You will perform operational maintenance, minor repairs and overhaul during shut down periods.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • The position often requires irregular hours.
  • This position requires evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Starting, stopping, monitoring, adjusting, and performing operational and preventive maintenance on boilers, feed water pumps and chemical metering pumps; 2) Performing chemical analysis of boiler water, feed water, steam, and condensate to evaluate operation of water treatment equipment and chemical addition; and 3) Performing operations tests upon completion of repairs to insure that equipment and systems operate as intended. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
