About the Position: As Chief of the Advertising & Public Affairs Division (A&PA) for the Miami Recruiting Battalion (BN), responsible for planning, directing and supervising the activities of the office and all assigned personnel. The incumbent is the principal technical advisor to the BN Commander on a wide range of advertising, outreach, and public affairs programs within the BN area of responsibility.
Duties
Manages the advertising programs’ budget for Active Army and U.S. Army Reserve recruiting within the Battalion area.
Supervises Army advertising activities within the Battalion area.
Oversees all aspects of Command information, public information, and community relations within the Battalion.
Directs the work activities of employees within the Public Affairs Division.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) is required up to 20% of the time.
- The incumbent of this position must possess and/or obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license prior to appointment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) assisting with the implementation and evaluation of a public affairs program; (2) developing advertising materials for dissemination through a variety of public entities; (3) applying effective oral and written communication to assist in solving public affairs related issues; (4) advising senior executives on advertising campaigns; and (5) responding to media queries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Affairs or Communication.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
