Duties
Serve as a Supervisor for SDO employees including support personnel with responsibility for making related supervisory and administrative decisions.
Provide technical leadership and direction for scientific diversity, health equity, and disparities research regarding NIEHS research in broad and important subject matter areas of national interest.
Serve as the primary scientific diversity liaison for the program for all interactions within and outside the NIEHS.
Provide leadership and/or expert guidance in the development and implementation of research, research capacity building, training and career development programs, and scientific workforce diversity that supports the scientific mission of the NIEHS.
Advise the highest levels of NIEHS management on major areas of importance in overall diversity policy and program direction and serves as the spokesperson for the NIEHS in this regard with the scientific community.
Provide guidance and serve as a technical authority on health disparities and health equity across all the ICs biomedical, clinical, and/or social behavioral science research programs.
Ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout the organization to include non-scientific staff by providing and/or participating in diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives.
Direct policy analysis, strategic planning, program evaluation, and conducts outreach.
Provide expert advice and make recommendations regarding actions on matters relating to research for specific research proposals.
Formulate and present new basic, translational and/or clinical and behavioral and social science research concepts, projects, and initiatives to appropriate advisory groups.

Qualifications
Education Requirement:
You must meet at least of the one following basic Office of Personnel Management prescribed occupational series requirements (GS-0101, GS-0601). You do not need to meet the requirements for both occupational series. All education, unless completed outside of the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.
For the GS-101 series:
A. Have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the behavioral or social sciences, or related disciplines appropriate to this position.
B. Have a combination of education and experience that provided me with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
C. Have four years of appropriate experience demonstrating that I have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
For the GS-601 series:
A. Have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.
In addition, to Qualify for the GS-15 grade level:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, which includes planning, implementing, and evaluating scientific diversity initiatives conducted by an organization. This specialized experience includes the following tasks.1. Assessing scientific diversity practices and guiding leadership to enhance inclusion/collaboration across a research program. 2. Evaluating biomedical/behavioral research to determine health disparity issues (e.g., recruitment of participants) that should be addressed. 3. Implementing policies/programs to promote an equitable culture across an organization that employs a more diverse scientific community. 4. Creating and recommending strategies (e.g., training, policies) to reduce health disparities (e.g., social, economic) impacting biomedical/behavioral research. AND 5. Leading scientific diversity objectives, policies, and activities to improve biomedical/behavioral research quality.
