This position performs work involving the performance of routine and recurring assignments providing information technology (IT) customer support independently or in support of a more senior specialist. Duties

Install and test software and computer hardware which includes personal computers, printers, servers, radio equipment, and other peripheral equipment. Troubleshoot systems and equipment errors and connectivity problems and resolves most problems; troubleshoot and maintain the stability of communication lines and equipment. Track customer hardware and software problems through a customer support database. Plan and schedule the installation of new and upgraded hardware and software application. Assist with development of specifications, work statements, and evaluation criteria for procurement and/or financial assistance awards for IT, radios, telephones, and other equipment. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary; however, some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with customer site visits, travel, and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. The work may also involve carrying light item, such as papers, books, or small parts; lifting, with assistance, various pieces of IT equipment such as computers, components, and printers; or driving a motor vehicle. The work does not require special physical effort. Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office setting where typical risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions occur; however, some work may occur in research facilities or industrial and/or maintenance areas that may require the use of hardhats, hearing protection, or other protective equipment. Valles Caldera National Preserve is located in the Jemez Mountains of north-central New Mexico and protects, preserves, and restores ecosystems and cultural landscapes within a 13-mile wide dormant volcanic caldera for the purpose of education, scientific research, public enjoyment and use, and cultural continuity. Visitor activities include hiking, biking, equestrian riding, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Park headquarters is located in Jemez Springs, and the park is located halfway between Jemez Springs and Los Alamos. The park is mountainous and mostly undeveloped. Elevations range from 7,800' to 11,254'. Temperatures during the summer can range from near freezing (night) to the mid-80 degrees (F) (day), while winter temperatures can reach -30 degrees F. The weather is typically dry and sunny, but monsoon rains are likely each day during the summer. Winters generally see 3-5 feet of snow, so driving under winter road conditions is required. Primary access is by dirt roads, which require the use of 4WD or AWD vehicles or the use of tire chains. Secondary access is by hiking (summer) or skiing/snowshoeing (winter), which can be challenging considering the weather and elevation. Government housing is not available. Housing in the Jemez Springs area is limited, but both apartments and houses can be found for sale or for rent in Los Alamos or in the Bernalillo/Rio Rancho area. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/29/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience may include but is not limited to the following examples: activities sufficient to receive, respond to and ensure complete resolution of desktop computer issues; providing software, IT systems or equipment guidance and/or training to enhance customer IT problems; install, configure, and test customer workstations; apply security/information assurance policy, principle, and practices in customer support services. -AND- ***YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE MUST ADDRESS AND CLEARLY DEMONSTRATE ALL FOUR COMPETENCIES**** Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion a master's degree (or equivalent) or have completed two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's (or equivalent) in an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems management, information science, engineering, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree field that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above. You must include transcripts. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
