Duties

Joining Customs & Border Protection will allow you to use your expertise in telecommunication principles, concepts and methods to support telecommunication systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $103,409.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $134,435.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $134,435 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Supervisory Telecommunications specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing support and guidance on telecommunications systems and services. Typical work assignments include: Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and operational testing of telecommunications systems. Overseeing and monitoring telecommunications networks that support law enforcement operations. Developing, monitoring, maintaining, coordinating, and conducting a variety of technical evaluations on a wide-range of voice communications systems, data communications systems, video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, networks and facilities. Providing technical, analytical and administrative oversight of work pertaining to acquisition, testing, integration, installation, utilization, maintenance or modification of technical systems, facilities, services and procedures.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting feasibility studies of new and advance telecommunications equipment and techniques. Conducting training on telecommunications systems and services. Participating in system design to ensure specialized need are met. Carrying out all phases of installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and operational testing of telecommunications systems including, but not limited to: voice communications, video surveillance systems, microwave systems, fiber optic equipment, wide area network (WAN), local area network (LAN), switched equipment, intrusion detection and access control systems.
