Duties
This position is expected to perform duties such as:
Prunes and trims trees and shrubs to obtain the shape, size and desired growth characteristics, and to remove diseased limbs or excess branches.
Transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants by digging proper sized holes and preparing the soil to receive the plants.
Removes the plant taking care not to damage the roots and removes sufficient soil to ensure its continued growth in the new location.
Computes quantities of plants, seeds, and other materials needed for specific areas.
Determines when plants need additional watering and how long they should be watered.
Selects and sprays area with herbicides, fungicides and insecticides for the control of plant diseases, plant insects, and weeds.
Cuts grass and trims hedges using either hand or power equipment.
Fertilizes, waters, and seeds turf areas, and removes rocks, leaves, trash and debris from landscaped areas.
May operate various types of motor vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks) to transport supplies and materials to work sites.
May operate farm-type tractors with attached equipment such as; rotary or flail mowers, augers, tillers, etc., in the performance of the gardener duties.
Employment/Salary Ranges:
Adam National Historical Park - April to September Quincy, MA: WG-6 step 1 $25.47 to step 5 $29.71.
Minute Man National Historical Park- May to November, Concord, MA: WG-6 step 1 $25.47 to step 5 $29.71.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

2. Technical Practices; theoretical precise, artistic (JE 25-E)
3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) (JE # 75-B)
4. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment (JE #81)
5. Knowledge of Materials (JE # 82-A)
6. Dexterity and Safety (JE #86)

Screen-Out: Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a current valid Massachusetts core pesticide applicator's license within one month of entry on duty. This pesticide license will allow applicant to mix, transport and apply pesticides in a professional capacity.
