Duties
The Superintendent has full responsibility for the management, administration, public relations, resource management, visitor protection, interpretation, natural resources management, visitor services, maintenance, security, and continued development of the area. The authority to manage George Rogers Clark National Historical Park (GERO) is delegated by the Midwest Regional Director's Office, National Park Service. The Superintendent manages the area in accordance with legislation authorizing the establishment of GERO and all laws, regulations, and policies applicable to managing a unit of the National Park System. GERO was established on July 23, 1966. The Park is in the heart of Vincennes, Indiana; the town has a population of approximately 18,000.
Area Information:
Government Housing may be available.
The Park is comprised of 26 acres (primarily manicured lawns and ornamental shrubs) and includes an 85' tall, neo-classical style memorial which stands on the site of the Revolutionary War Fort Sackville to commemorate the capture of the fort from British Lt. Governor Henry Hamilton and his soldiers by Lt. Col. George Rogers Clark and his frontiersmen on February 25, 1779. GERO is located along the scenic Wabash River, on the southern edge of Vincennes (population 18,000) in southwest Indiana. Public and private schools for grades K - 12 are available in Vincennes as well as districts in outlying, rural areas. Vincennes is home to Vincennes University offering technical training and associate's and bachelor's degrees. A regional hospital and medical clinics are located in Vincennes. The Evansville metropolitan area with greater services is 55 miles south of Vincennes and Terre Haute is approximately 50 miles to the north. Government housing is not available. Along with the Revolutionary War battle that occurred at Fort Sackville, Vincennes is a centerpiece of historical events from Indiana's territorial period through the 20th century. The park collaborates with a handful of local museums for programs and public outreach.
Physical Demands: The work of this position has no unusual physical demands. However, extended workdays and occasional evening and weekend contacts are inherent. The work is normally sedentary in an office or similar setting, but occasionally requires work under difficult and stressful conditions demanding physical stamina, emotional stability, and knowledgeable responses. Occasional travel is required.
Working Conditions: Work is largely performed at the park in an office setting with visits to other sites associated with the park. Inspection of the work sites and park resources may involve traversing on level, sloped, or uneven ground with some stair or ladder-climbing.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/02/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
