This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, Position Description Number D2277000 and is part of the MS 186 ARW, National Guard.
Duties
This position is located in an Air National Guard aircraft maintenance inspectionorganization. As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8852-10, you will lead three or more journeyman Aircraft Mechanics, WG-8852-10, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel. In addition, perform journeyman duties involving the inspection, repair, modification, and servicingof aircraft systems, components, and assemblies for both on- and off-aircraft.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(1) On a regular and recurring basis, leads three or more aircraft mechanics,crew chiefs, and specialist personnel performing work in the inspection docks.
(2) Monitors the work of assigned personnel, sets the pace, passes alongassignments, and assures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available.Works along with aircraft mechanics and specialist personnel performing journeymanwork as required.
(3) Insures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished inaccordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/orupon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions, appropriate technicalorders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regardingappropriate procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives. Ensures thatsafety, housekeeping, security and other environmental rules are followed.
(4) Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress ofwork, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g.,additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested bythe supervisor, provides functional planning for the inspection docks. On a daily basis,recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnelin support of functional requirements.
(5) Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess and document in detail, at least 24 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
NOTES TO CANDIDATES:
a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor.
