This position is located in the Plumbing Shop, Maintenance and Repair unit, Engineering Section of the Facilities Management Service under the general supervision of the Plumbing Supervisor. The incumbent performs maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing systems and equipment and may be required to work at both Heinz and University Drive.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Performs layout, assembly, and repair of complex plumbing systems and equipment, including tapping lines, placing hangers, braces, and supports for proper pitch, slope, and elevation, and connecting and testing risers, reducers, standard plumbing fixtures and fittings, and other utilization equipment, etc. Test and treat potable water systems. Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment. Accurately complete and file maintenance records. Repair a wide variety complex plumbing and piping systems including medical air, gas and vacuum system. Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday; 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am OR Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am OR Tuesday - Saturday 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am (Shift to be determined at time of selection) Position Description Title/PD#: Plumber/PD00384A Physical Requirements: Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, often in hard to reach places. Frequently handles, lifts, carries equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds and chemicals that weight up to 120 pounds. Much of the work is done on ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Incumbent is standing or walking much of the time and must be in good overall physical condition. Physical capability to regularly walk long distances, dexterity and accurate hand-eye coordination, and corrected 20/20 vision and accurate color perception are required. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent frequently works in areas which are extremely hot, cold or unventilated. Occasionally required to make repairs or installations outside in bad weather. Exposure to solvents, fluxes, lubricants, etc., natural gas, sewer gas and other fumes is common. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, infections and contagious diseases. Occasionally exposed to possibility of broken bones. Protective safety gear must be worn and safety practices must be followed at all times because of the prevailing hazards.
