This position is located on the Intermountain Region on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in South Jordan, UT. Analyzes archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable. Makes recommendations to be used in "determinations of effect" and "determinations of eligibility" by the archaeologist. Duties

Analyzes archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable. Compiles and reports information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources. Adapts ground search strategies as determined by specific project requirements i.e., terrain, vegetation cover, and time frames. Insures that archeology work assignments are carried out in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures. Reviews work in progress to see that standards for pre-field research, survey design, site recording, graphics, and final report are being met. Prepares Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms. Enters site and inventory information into databases and onto GIS maps. Researchers reference materials such as State and National register files, historic documents, archeological reports, maps and aerial photos, and interviews source individuals concerning project areas.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-07: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Monitoring archeological projects to ensure sufficiency of on-site surveying and recording; Preparing reports, such as cultural resource inventories, that document project's environmental and cultural backgrounds, methodologies, and findings; Identifying and recording on maps or aerial photographs the exact locations and orientations of artifacts found. OR One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-07 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
