Duties

The incumbent will provide technical leadership and guidance in basic and translational research areas to facilitate the understanding, treatment, and prevention of alcohol use disorder and prevention of alcohol-associated organ damage. These position offers the opportunities to develop and lead scientific programs on the cutting-edge of research. Program Officers advise the Institute on future scientific directions that encourage research in critical and emerging areas, develop targeted programs to foster innovative and high-impact research, interact with investigators in diverse scientific areas, assess the progress of awarded grants and contracts, and serve as an expert resource for the scientific community and the public. Candidates with a background in science disciplines that can inform understanding of brain and behavior are invited to apply. Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer), Division of Neuroscience and Behavior The Division of Neuroscience and Behavior (DNB) of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is seeking outstanding candidates to provide programmatic support for research to facilitate the understanding, treatment, and prevention of alcohol use disorder. The preferred candidates will have documented research experience (i.e., publications) in areas relevant to understanding brain and behavior and or have knowledge of current and emerging methods and approaches in genetics, genomics and/or epigenetics, or in functional and structural neuroimaging methods and analysis. Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer), Division of Metabolism and Health Effects The Division of Metabolism and health Effects (DMHE) of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is seeking outstanding candidate for extramural to provide General knowledge of physiology, cell biology, or molecular biology, along with an understanding of health, disease, and recovery processes. Specific expertise in the biology of any of the following will be helpful: liver, pancreas, lung, the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, or immune systems, the microbiome, cancer, aging, nutrition, or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Experience with clinical trial design, statistics, bioinformatics, data science, genomics, or epigenetics. Physician Scientists and Basic Scientists would also be a plus.
