The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is under the direct supervision of the Chief, Environmental Management Service or designee. The position follows oral and written instructions, interpret policies and work procedures as given by the supervisor. The position operates on own initiative and judgment with minimal supervision. The position keeps supervisor informed about significant trends, changing conditions, and major problem areas.

Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to: Trains staff and ensure that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Provides special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies. Schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives. Keeps the supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. Ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues. Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. Makes formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct. Inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner. Provides documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work. Works independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary. Work Schedule: Rotating Shift, 7:00AM-3:30pm or 3:00pm-11:30pm or 11:00pm-7:30am with weekend rotation. Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Supervisor/PD619-10434-A Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Physical effort is required when performing housekeeping duties, operating equipment, during training sessions, or in emergency situations. Work is performed in all areas of the medical center

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and SafetyInterpret Instructions, Specifications (other than blueprint reading)Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentWork Practices Preferred Experience: 1 year of Work Lead experience or 2 years of Supervisory experience in Housekeeping. 1 year experience providing technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing housekeeping work for the medical center. Administrative knowledge and the ability to develop and write detailed statements and communicate job requirement. 1 year Housekeeping experience. Knowledge on proper chemicals and safety and be able to read Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge on the use of cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, buffers, ultra-violet (UV) technology and vacuum cleaners) and other related equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
