You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DIVISION of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY CENTER CUTLER.

Duties

You will determine levels of staff, equipment, and other resources needed to provide departmental services and programs. You will instruct training for members of other fire departments. You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned. You will brief building occupants on life and safety hazards.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Direct/ deploy firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations; 2) Apply management objectives and goals for employees including performance objectives and appraisals, individual development planning, and command mission, and to effectively communicate those goals and objectives to subordinates; 3) Lead personnel in the delivery of basic life support and/or advanced life support including coordination/direction of ground ambulance transportation service; 4) Deliver accurate, effective, and professional communications, briefs, procedures, explanatory papers, correspondence, and investigative/fire/EMS reports; and 5) Plan and lead company or station-level training classes, skills practice, and company drills. NOTE: This experience must be demonstrated in your resume. **This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Operations, Apparatus Driver/Operator Pumper, Apparatus Driver/Operator Aerial, Apparatus Driver/Operator ARFF. The following certification is also required: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and must have been awarded by National Registry (if you have a STATE EMT, but do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire). if you do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire). NOTE: These certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or Pro-Board to meet the requirement. Authority: Department of Defense Memorandum dated 18 December 2015. The employee is required to work 24-hour shifts within a 72-hour week/144-hour pay period that includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall and scheduled or unscheduled mandatory overtime. Rigorous duties: This position requires the performance of rigorous duties. The incumbent may be subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to hazardous substances, specialty rescue operations and high noise levels. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire apparatus under adverse conditions. The employee works outside in all types of weather conditions. The work requires the use of protective clothing or gear, such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, and/or shields, and appropriate body substance isolation procedures. The employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by the department. - This position falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. - Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. - Position requires incumbent to pass annual firefighter physical exam in accordance with NFPA 1582. - Position requires ongoing skills competencies, testing and certifications including emergency medical services (EMS) licensure/certification, and local credentialing /medical director endorsement. - May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams. -Position requires ability to perform high-angle technical rope rescue at heights >300ft
