About the Position: This position is located at 58TH Transportation Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, Mo. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hr drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the West of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Perform motor vehicle operator duties for one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles and combination vehicles typically with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 26,000 pounds. Prepare log books and complete preventive maintenance service records. Receive, store, and issue general supplies in accordance with established guidelines. Operate heavy hand tools and power equipment to perform tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming tree limbs, digging ditches and trenches in hard, compacted soil, grading and sloping, clearing small trees and bushes, and snow removal. Perform driver maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations. Operate forklifts up to 10,000 lbs capacity to load and off-load or transport equipment and materials. Use hand-trucks, dollies, and/or electric, diesel, or gasoline powered forklift trucks to move, stack and unstack, and load and unload materials in and about warehouses, storage areas, loading docks, and on and off vehicles.

Requirements

  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Incumbent of this position will be required to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to satisfactorily perform duties. Failure to obtain and maintain a CDL could result in removal from the position.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass and maintain forklift operator certification.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing.
  • Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program).
  • DA Form 7412 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions identified safety-sensitive under the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration rules on drug and alcohol testing).
  • This position is requiring participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Approximately 40% of required lifting is boxes or items weighting 60 pounds or more. Assistance for lifting heavier items is available during loading/unloading. Muscular effort is also required in changing tires and wheels and making emergency road repairs. WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates vehicle in all types of weather. Loads and unloads supplies in all types of weather. Vehicle cab is heated, but metal storage container on back is without heat or electricity. Exposure to traffic hazards. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and scrapes.
