Job opening: AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

Salary: $30 - 35 per hour

You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (Trade SME) in the PRODUCTION DIVISION, FS NSA PHILADELPHIA E/S/PM (PRP31B2) of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will repair HVAC systems and components in structures of which are complex. You will test for refrigerant leaks and use a refrigerant recovery/ recycling station, to EnvironmentalProtection Agency standards to safely reclaim recycle and store the refrigerant before repair scan be made. You will visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure. You will use all trade tools and test equipment and instruments including, voltage, amperage, andohmmeters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, capacitor analyzers, etc.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing air conditioning and refrigation systems; 2.) Understanding the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigation as they relate to the use of refrigerant tables; 3.) Using a variety of tools and test equipment; 4.) Evaluating system operation and detecting deficiencies; 5.) Understanding electricial control theory as it relates to HVAC systems, components, safety devices and control circuitry.
