This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent serves as the Collections Manager of a Presidential Library with the responsibility for the management and maintenance of the library's museum collections. The incumbent performs a variety of duties, including day to day oversight of all objects and official records, performing research on the collection in response to researchers and donors, and responding to a wide variety of public inquiries.
Duties
As a Museum Specialist (History), you will:
Supervise a staff of museum technicians at the full performance level.
Appraise performance, counsels, review leave requests, and perform basic supervisory tasks for all assigned subordinates.
Ensures that proper procedures are followed with regard to the proper accountability, registration, documentation, and care of the collections for a Presidential Library.
Work closely with the Director and/or Deputy Director, other Presidential Libraries, and museum and private collectors from around the world to coordinate the Library's outgoing loan program primarily for exhibition purposes.
Perform research related to the collections to support production of text for labels and scripts and developing and maintaining catalogues.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Conducting custodial duties related to artifact registration and collections-based management in a museum setting. Duties such as; accessioning, proper care, accountability reporting, inventory, preservation, artifact handling, documentation of objects, and deaccessions.;
AND
- Administering Museum collections management databases such as; The Museum System (TMS), PastPerfect Museum Software or Re: discovery software.;
AND
- Managing incoming and outgoing loans of artifacts in a museum setting including duties such as: loan requests paperwork, insurance, shipping logistics, loans registration, and electronic (TMS) and hard copy records related to all loans.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11level for 52 weeks.
