This position is located at Job Corps Centers in Laona, Wisconsin and Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the Career Preparation Period (CPP) plan; providing guidance and instruction to new students during their orientation period and coordinating vocational exploration. Duties

Assists primary instructors and to plan, organize and conduct limited instruction. Functions as principal coordinator among Career Technical Training (CTT), academic, and residential-living areas regarding new student activities. Counsel, motivate, guide and assist students in goal setting, and resolving issues. Provides instruction, tutors, directs, guides, monitors, and supervises students.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-6: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: working with young adults while providing basic guidance and instruction for vocational/career exploration, goalsetting, and promoting the development of positive social skills; assisted in the development, instruction, and/or testing of vocational and/or academic courses; or served in a developmental/training capacity in a counseling, social work, or teaching field that provided the knowledge and skills to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-7: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: participating with training specialists and subject matter experts in the development of Programs of Instruction; providing instruction using required materials and curriculum; providing advice and guidance to students on goal-setting, personal problem areas and educational and career development goals; and maintaining and routing course materials and training records. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
