You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Branch of of MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CTR

Duties

You will identify, analyze, and determine the appropriate action necessary to correct hazardous conditions that may be difficult to recognize and where no specific requirement has been established. You will review fire and life safety plans, specifications and product submittals for self help, renovations, remodels, and construction projects from concept to commissioning. You will survey, inspect and functionality test fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems and portable fire extinguishers in accordance with applicable directives.

  • You must possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • For the GS-05 you must possess a current Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Life Support (EMT-B) certification/licenses. GS-04 positions will have 12 months to receive this certification.
  • You must possess a current, valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. See additional information section.
  • For the GS-05 you must possess a current Fire Instructor I - DoD Firefighter certification Program, IFSAC or Pro Board. GS-04 positions will have 12 months to receive this certification.
  • For the GS-05 you must possess a current Fire Inspector I - DoD Firefighter certification Program, IFSAC or Pro Board. GS-04 positions will have 12 months to receive this certification.
  • For the GS-05 you must possess a current HazMat First Responder Awareness - DoD Firefighter certification Program, California Specialized Training Institute, IFSAC or Pro Board. GS-04 positions will have 12 months to receive this certification.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector (1) working in accordance to national, federal and state codes and ordinances; (2) inspecting, testing and maintaining fire protection equipment; (3) investigating origin, causes and spread of fires; and (4) following EMT treatment protocols. GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector working with the aspects of a fire protection/prevention program, and/or having experience with a fire protection/prevention program to include reviewing fire safety plans, review fire codes, and/or maintenance of fire protection equipment. The GS-05 position requires a 56 hour work week (typically Monday through Friday) with 1 overnight, 24 hour duty shift. This is a bargaining unit position. Recruitment and Relocation incentives may or may not be authorized. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. GS-05: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related fields of study.
