Duties

You will function as a Windows System Administrator expert and maintains local area network (LAN) management and system support software. You will be responsible for configuring, monitoring, managing, troubleshooting, and maintaining all network servers, virtual environments, storage area networks (SANs) and network-attached storage (NAS). You will work with internal and external technical support personnel to resolve critical hardware or software interface and interoperability problems. You will serve as a member of a section responsible for analyzing and managing systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability. You will lead the initiation, coordination and documentation of plans for obtaining the configuration items and support services.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Work requires occasional travel, up to 10% of the time.
  • You must be capable of lifting and moving network file servers, UPS units, microcomputers, printers and other computer equipment. Climbing, reaching, crawling may also be required when relocating or installing computer equipment and network cabling.

Qualifications

For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of IT related specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector coordinating and integrating technical aspects of computer technical support coupled with administrative matters such as planning, standards, acquisition, configuration management, information security, life cycle management and risk management compliance. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Assisting with planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware and operating systems and application software; 2) Configuring, monitoring, managing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network servers, virtual environments, storage area networks (SANs) and network-attached storage (NAS); 3) Assisting with developing the strategy for optimal use of virtualization products (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) to include system integration with other collaborative tools within the organization; 4) Recommending and implementing security controls, maintaining password policies, and overall network security practices; 5) Providing technical support for all Windows Server operating systems and user application software currently in use within the organization; 6) Analyzing hardware reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas and to establish computer and telecommunications performance levels. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of IT related specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with coordinating and integrating technical aspects of computer technical support coupled with administrative matters such as planning, standards, acquisition, configuration management, information security, life cycle management and risk management compliance. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Deploying, configuring, and managing Windows Servers; 2) Monitoring and troubleshooting Active Directory Domain Services; 3) Diagnosing system failures and correcting or advising responsible vendor of problem; 4) Managing accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment for multiple local area networks (LANs) as well as the associated Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure; 5) Providing technical support for all Windows Server operating systems and user application software. In addition to the above specialized experience, your resume must demonstrate having IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below (for BOTH GS-09 and GS-11): Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

For the GS-11:
Successful completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

For the GS-09:
Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

OR

Successful completion of 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
