You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the NAVY FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of, Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic.

Duties

You will manage Fire and Emergency Services Programs to maintain a state of readiness for protecting life and property. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will train firefighters on airfield, shipboard, structural, confined space, and hazardous materials firefighting procedures. You will analyze the environment (e.g., relationship between fuels, topography, wind, humidity) in the fire environment to ensure use of the correct firefighting apparatus. You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will brief senior leaders or other employees on matters on firefighting actives, personnel, and equipment.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC).

Qualifications

For outside applicants claiming VEOA (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service) Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Direct/deploy firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations; 2) Increasingly responsible positions involving managing fire department programs such as breathing air systems, personal protective equipment, purchasing/credit card holder, health and safety, fire department accreditation, or similar programs; 3) Apply management objectives and goals for employees including performance objectives and appraisals, individual development planning, and command mission, and to effectively communicate those goals and objectives to subordinates; and 4) Directing attack for the effective control and extinguishment of fires, managing emergency medical patient care and ground ambulance transport for single- and multi-patient incidents, managing hazardous materials and special operations emergencies, and managing other threats and emergencies in order to save lives and property, and preserve the mission of the Installation and Region. NOTE: This experience must be supported by your resume. Certifications Required: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: FO II, Insp I, Inst I, HAZMAT IC, DO P, CPR, EVOC. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT)
