Duties

You will interpret information in blueprints, charts, and sketches to adjust, replace, and repair boiler system equipment. You will conduct internal, external, or hydrostatic tests of boilers to inspect for leaks, corrosions, or pitting. You will work with hand tools and measuring devices to perform basic boiler plant operations. You will demonstrate work methods for the repair and maintenance of boiler plant equipment. You will reference technical manuals to determine malfunctions in steam system equipment. You will document unusual conditions with plant operations in a logbook. You will monitor equipment and piping to ensure boiler systems are running efficiently.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work a Shift Work schedule. A Shift Work schedule describes work performed with varying and/or rotating shifts.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. I am able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • You will be required to furnish basic hand tools typical of the trade.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Knowledge and operation of high and low pressure gas fires boilers and gas fired steam boilers, dexterity and safety, ability to interpret instructions, use of measuring instruments, mechanical installation and repair (general), respond to emergency trouble calls, knowledge of equipment assembly, understanding of systems (electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic controls and safety devices), perform preventative maintenance of boiler systems and related equipment.
