You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of different piping systems and equipment. You will determine the extent of repairs required for piping systems or equipment. You will inspect and test systems for damage, leaks, and blockages in lines, expansion joints, valves and traps. You will operate hand and power tools (e.g., hydraulic benders, presses, power saws, drills, threaders, cutters) to install or repair piping systems.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A PIPEFITTER WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION as demonstrated by: 1) Installing, modifying, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing industrial or domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment; 2) Planning, laying out and installing piping systems and equipment from blueprints, sketches, etc.; and 3) Performing soft soldering and silver brazing with an oxyacetylene torch.
