This position functions as the Laundry Supervisor for the Lake City VA Medical Center and is located within the office of Facilities Management Services (FMS).

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Plans the sequence of operation for subordinates and establishes deadlines and priorities. Supervises and directs the flow of work through the laundry department. Determines what classifications of work are needed to maintain a flow of work throughout the plant. Fills linen requests and meets delivery schedules. Assigns and directs workers and gives priority to tasks to be completed. Adjusts to changing situations brought about by equipment breakdowns in this department and other departments. Assigns the immediate task to be performed by the employees. Trains subordinate to properly perform necessary tasks and in the operation of equipment. Reviews operations to identify training needs. Assisting in formulating training plans and conducting classes in all areas of Department Medical Center policies. Participating in conducting regular employee meetings. Supervises collection of soiled linen and delivery of clean linen. Counsels and recommends disciplinary action or awards or praise as necessary or warranted.. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: : Work is generally performed indoors where light and ventilation are adequate. May be exposed to contagious, noise, steam and minor cuts or bruises when working in the plant or with equipment. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
