This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.

Duties

Use hand and power tools common to the trade. Work with threaded, solvent weld, and acetylene weld pipes and fittings. Perform maintenance to several large industrial/commercial type swimming pools. Serve as a Plumber installing, maintaining, altering, and repairing plumbing facilities. Perform tasks in connection with the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems; which includes minor carpentry work. Train lifeguards and other recreational personnel in the operation of pool equipment; the incumbent answers their questions and responds to requests for special needs or assistance. Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain gas and steam fired kitchen equipment in various mess halls to include bake ovens, stack ovens, grills, toasters, thermostats and replaces as necessary.

• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
• This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies. This may include, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
• Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.

I can repair and/or replace a variety of exterior plumbing systems, and follow simple diagrams or work instructions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.
