Duties
The incumbent will serve as an Electronics Technician. As an Electronics Technician you will perform the following duties:
Install and operate National Upper Air Systems with emphasis on Automated Radiosonde Observing System (AROS) and Cooperative Hurricane Upper Air Stations (CHUAS) sites.
Develop and recommend short and long-term strategies for the Help Desk to ensure the effectiveness of Upper Air observing programs in meeting mission-critical performance standards and enabling continued improvement at the field office level.
Lead training programs to assist new employees, resolves any specific problems, and tailors training programs as necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires field deployment providing liaison between field offices and the Evaluation Branch. Work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, working in cramped or confined areas, and/or the lifting of moderately heavy objects (e.g., handle and carry tools, equipment, and testing devices that may weigh up to 40 pounds). Climbing of equipment ladders, towers, and fixed stairs is required. Occasional overtime work is required during periods of emergencies.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
When at the regular home duty station, the work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions. This position requires field and/or site visits. However, when traveling to field sites, the work environment requires the employee to stay alert continually and to take special safety precautions including wearing special protective items of clothing. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts, such as the following: Long periods of driving motorized and specialized vehicles to perform site equipment maintenance that may involve dust, strong odors, or fumes from fuels, chemicals, or engine exhaust; high levels of noise and vibration, dust, grease, electrical hazards, uncovered moving parts of machinery, moving machinery; or outdoor conditions involving moderate exposure to rain, cold/hot weather, icy streams, and rivers.

EDUCATION: There is no positive education requirement for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for the GS-13:
Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Providing life cycle support for operations of observations and requirements for planned improvements to field systems;
Analyzing or diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment; and,
Utilizing training techniques and tools to develop and design learning strategies and curriculum for training to support system evolution or hardware and software updates.
