About the Position: Performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties in support of the Battalion Commander and staff.
Duties
Determine nature of calls and visitors to refer communications to appropriate supervisor or staff member.
Respond to routine and non-technical requests for information.
Manages electronic mail and messages received to assure commander obtains appropriate information.
Prepares written material assuring that formatting, punctation, and spelling is correct.
Prepares summaries of telephone calls to document important details of conversations.
Utilize Microsoft Office Software to perform task such as updating the commander's calendar and preparing reports.
Complete a variety of routine office tasks using word processing software and printing equipment.
Maintains office files in accordance with established filing procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required 10% of the time
- Incumbent must self-certify as a qualified typist (40wpm) for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) utilizing multi-line phone systems to route calls to appropriate staff members; (2) drafting correspondence in accordance with established guidelines; (3) scheduling meetings to adhere to supervisor's schedule; and (4) maintaining office files and supplies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
