Serves as a Supply Technician in the Prosthetic Service. Responsible for assuring that adequate supplies of Prosthetic and Orthotic items are on hand to provide for patient services, that adequate stock is maintained for the Orthotic Lab for fabrication, and that necessary wheelchair parts are available for minor repairs for wheelchairs. Oversees stock maintenance levels and establishes or adjusts stock levels and reorder points using standard formulas and prescribed procedures.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new or unusual situations and those without clear precedence. Manages the receipt of supplies and materials into the service Ensures supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas; Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system; Analyzes management reports in order to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems; Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center. Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate of policy or procedural changes. Manages and controls all inventory transactions for assigned areas in the Prosthetic Treatment Center. Authority to execute proper inventory adjustments, process stock returns for credit, and make cataloging decisions for inventory items. Independently determines the best purchasing and payment method to utilize, i.e. purchase order, IMPAC purchase card, etc. The incumbent conducts market research on product pricing and performance. and other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/25/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitors expiration dates; ensure supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of wok production and quality of work. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds. Work Environment: The employee works indoors in an environment involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms. Observance of normal safety practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations is required.
