About the Position: The MEPS are a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico.The mission of USMEPCOM and the MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
Duties
As a Supervisory Medical Technician, you will:
Supervise Medical Technicians and other assigned staff in the office.
Set up, train, oversee and perform operator-level maintenance and calibrations on a wide variety of medical equipment, instruments and apparatus.
Explain disqualifying conditions to applicants who have significant health issues discovered during the course of their examination.
Coordinate with the Medical Officer, the MEPS Commander, Sector Advisors, and/or USMEPCOM staff for program improvements and enhancements.
Establish and modify local work procedures governing all aspects of medical processing.
Track and maintain medical assessment data.
Perform and oversee Quality Review Procedures (QRP) on medical records.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires you to possess or obtain and maintain a personnel security background check.
- Must use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves, employee cannot wear exposing footwear.
- Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
- Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System with 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Performing and/or advising on a variety of complex test, procedures and examinations in a clinical laboratory; Maintaining quality assurance and quality control checks of test results; Performing phlebotomy on patients; Delegating tasks and providing technical guidance to medical technicians and/or medical personnel; Performing quality assurance reviews of applicant records and ensuring they include test result.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Current permanent Federal employees can use specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS-07) or equivalent.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone.
