About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Duties
Assign Lead Security Guards, Security Guards, and Information Desk Clerks to duty posts and patrols based on work assignment needs.
Provide advice, counsel, and training to employees for work and administrative matters and evaluate the employees on their work performance.
Conduct periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facility.
Perform random spot checks for compliance with key control, supply, property and vehicle security regulations and directives.
Conduct periodic established foot (interior/perimeter) and vehicle (parking lots/facility access roads) patrols to detect physical security breaches and trespassing, to include checking and/or securing sensitive areas.
Maintain records of personnel entering/departing controlled areas.
Respond to reports of suspicious persons or items; quell disturbances; and assist medical staff in subduing unruly patients, visitors, or staff.
Under emergency situation, immediately take appropriate action to ensure the security of personnel, facilities and sensitive material, using initiative and judgment in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification IAW AR 190-56.
- This position may require the incumbent to work overtime.
- Firearms testing and successful qualification to Army published standards required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress.
- Position requires employee to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- Incumbent must be able to act in the capacity of a first responder to critical incidents, including but not limited to: criminal acts, natural disasters, lost or missing persons, mass casualties, and/or acts of terror or mass destruction.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR and first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes conducting foot patrols, responding to reports of suspicious persons or items, and maintaining records of personnel entering or departing controlled areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
