This Career Seasonal position is located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Center for Resources. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately March 15 thru December 15, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

The major duties of the Biological Science Technician position include, but are not limited to: Performs technician work that is supportive of professionals in resource management (i.e. Wildlife Biologists). These positions are primarily concerned with research, conservation, and management of wildlife; the control of wildlife; or determination, establishment, and application of the biological facts, principles, methods, techniques, and procedures necessary for the conservation, management, and control of wildlife. Implements natural resource management projects following established procedures. Collects and organizes field data, ensuring quality control of data or collected samples. Provides assessment and classification of data. Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines related to resource management projects. Provides logistical support for resource management projects as well as advice, assistance, and training to students, volunteers or lower graded technicians. Uses a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and other resource management information. Uses a wide variety of specialized equipment to carry out resource management projects.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/24/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-0404-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Examples of specialized experience are: Followed instructions and standardized procedures; collected and organized field data; ensured quality control of data collected; performed routine and recurring testing of collected samples; recorded data collected and provided preliminary assessment and classification of the information; assisted in the preparation of resource management reports, plans, and guidelines: demonstrated the ability to execute established natural resource management projects by independently planning and carrying out steps using established techniques to resolve problems; performed field studies on plants and plant ecology, inventoried, monitored and/or controlled of invasive plants or made other field observations on the state of natural resource conditions. . You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (18 semester hour or 27 quarter hours) directly related to this position. Examples of directly related education are biology, botany, range science, forestry, ecology, environmental science, zoology, fisheries, animal husbandry, natural resource management or other directly related fields. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of an equivalent combination of education and experience. For example, six months of the specialized experience as described above (50% of the experience requirement) and nine hours of related graduate study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
