Duties
Conduct inspections of construction sites during various phases of construction and upon completion; recommends changes and additions to ensure compliance with the fire prevention/protection requirements
Conduct physical inspections of large, complex, and highly fire prone post and range facilities including mission related facilities.
Provide fire prevention training, lectures and demonstration during special events such as fire prevention week, spring cleanup and holiday events, etc.
Review work requests involving alteration and extension of existing facilities; recommends changes and additions to ensure compliance with fire prevention requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- This position covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Control Program and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential and is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
- This position requires to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position requires successfully completing an annual Job Performance test.
- This position requires participating in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
- Positions requiring the incumbent to drive a military/GSA vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required. Do you understand these requirements?
- Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Incumbent will be required to work 60 hours per week (120 hours per pay period) which includes one 24-hour shift and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience providing training in fire protection and prevention to include detection, reduction, and/or elimination of potential fire hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor, IHAZMAT Awareness, Airport Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
