About the Position: This is a Secretary (Office Automation) position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, Office of Counsel.
Duties
Works under the general supervision of the District Counsel and Deputy District Counsel, where applicable.
Receives assignments in the form of broad objectives and performs daily work independently, guided by only brief discussions with supervisor.
Monitors work progress to ensure timely completion of work within established deadlines.
Assists staff attorneys in the procedural and administrative aspects of accomplishing the office workload, including time-sensitive litigation where critical deadlines have been established.
Consults with staff attorneys to determine whether files on closed cases should be retained in office, sent to storage and, if so, for what period of time, or if they can be destroyed.
Gathers information and prepare periodic reports including; 1) monthly/quarterly status reports concerning significant office actions, 2) annual Affirmative Action Report, 3) annual Property Accountability Report, and 4) monthly VISA report.
Tracks and updates through automated Law Manager System certain pending matters to include contract claims and appeals, bid protests, mistakes in bid, personnel hearings, and FOIA and Privacy Act requests.
Maintains the schedule for and prepares personnel actions (i.e. support forms, appraisals, mid-point reviews, performance awards).
Initiates personnel action in the form of SF-52s for office personnel, using personnel software systems.
Acts as the office Training Coordinator, prepares training budget and updates it as required.
Commits and obligates training funds through CEFMS. Maintains credit card purchase files for payment and audit purposes.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Collecting data for periodic status reports; AND 2) Utilizing automated systems to track office documents and/or workload. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
