About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Operations & Maintenance Division, located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Applies prime, intermediate and finish coats with brushes, rollers or spray gun, making sure that finish meets match, texture, decorative, thickness and level requirements. Paints one type or variety of surfaces such as interiors and exteriors of buildings and related structures such as pipes, fences, doors, windows; stationary and mobile equipment. Mixes paints and pre-coating agents by thinning to proper viscosity, tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing in additives such as fungicides. Drives a 3/4 ton truck in performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Prepare surfaces by methods such as sanding and wire brushing. I am skilled in coating materials so that the surfaces are free from skips, runs, and drips. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of MaterialsPaintingTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires considerable arm movement, standing, stooping, bending and kneeling, especially when surfaces to be coated are in awkward and hard-to-reach places. Required to climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to work on ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 45 pounds and sometimes handles material and equipment up to 65 pounds and over. Works at heights up to 25 feet. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside with dirt, spray and fumes usually present. Is occasionally exposed to bad weather and sometimes required to wear heavy and uncomfortable protective clothing such as spray hood, respirators, gloves, etc. Is exposed to cuts, bruises and the possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and scaffolds; eye and skin irritation from fumes, solvents or paint. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas.
