Duties

Serves as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP). Trains and evaluates aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. Performs preflight weather analysis, route and altitude selections, alternate airport selection, fuel, cargo and passenger load computations, selection of refueling stops, preflight inspections, flight plan filing, and firing ranges route planning. Serves as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) carrying out a variety of duties to provide a productive aviation safety program for the Army Aviation Support Facility. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Signing of a DA Form 5019 acknowledging periodic random drug testing requirements is mandatory to being placed into this position.
• Incumbent must possess and continue to maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical.
• To maintain the position - The incumbent must have a current Network License according to Army or Air Force Directives, Licensing Network Users and Certifying Network Professionals.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
• Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Temporary Duty travel may be required

Qualifications

This a Career Ladder position for a GS-12/13. This advertisement is written for the GS-13 level. Your qualifications for the GS-12 and/or GS-13 will be determined by your resume and questionnaire responses. If you are hired at the GS-12 level, you will be required to remain at the GS-12 level for MINIMUM of 12 months, before you become ELIGIBLE to be non-competitively promoted to GS-13. Mandatory Minimum Qualification: Eligibility requirements for Dual Status technician positions in this occupation are based on the candidate's possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: An applicant must have a competent understanding of the occupation basic principles and concepts. Applicants should have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level. Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For GS-12 Level: Must have at least 36 months of specialized experience working in civilian aviation programs; or, in military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components); or, in the Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities; or, in Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Groups. Experience, training, or knowledge in flying to pilots to fly tactical operations in light single or twin-engine helicopters. This may include experience instructing or evaluating pilots in light single/ twin engine helicopters. To qualify, the applicant must have at least two years specialized competencies in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Experienced in reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information. Experienced in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings. Experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments. Experienced in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance. Competent in conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders. Knowledge is required in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures. Experienced in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies, regulations, and directives. Must have at least 12 months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. For GS-13 level: Must have at least 36 months of specialized experience working in civilian aviation programs; or, in military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components); or, in the Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities; or, in Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Groups. Experience, training, or knowledge flying "advanced military aircraft" (helicopters or airplanes) in combat situations. Incumbent of this position trains and assess rated pilots to fly advanced helicopters in aggressive combat and complex tactical situations. Experience, training, or knowledge of flying assignments at higher degree of experience, skill, and knowledge by the incumbent pilot. Such assignments involve training and assessing pilots in evasive, defensive, and aggressive maneuvers and the use gunnery in combat and complex tactical situations. Such maneuvers are considerably more extensive and difficult to perform than those at the GS-12 level. Experience, training, or knowledge of instruction in advanced instrument flight technique, combat training in advanced military aircraft and instruction of instructor pilots in methods of instruction. Education

Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
