Serves as the Store Worker (Fork Lift Operator) in a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) location. The primary purpose of this position is to Perform duties of a Store Worker (Fork Lift Operator). Position is located at the San Onofre Annex.

Duties

Performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, handling, marking, preparing, displaying and maintaining the stock of resale items. Involves regular and recurring operation of a forklift and may at store management's discretion, include order writing tasks. Determines the amount of shelf space to be used for various items within a department and estimates the space requirements for new items or increased quantities. Receives supplies, equipment, and perishable, semi-perishable, and non-perishable resale items in the receiving area of the commissary. Verifies shipments by checking the shipping documents, making proper notations on the documents, and identifying any obvious spoilage, damage, overages, or shortages. Operates a computer system that marks prices, calculates prices, and determines weights of merchandise. Read the entire announcement before starting the application process.

Knowledge of brand names and sizes of grocery items or of the kinds and varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure the proper care and handling of certain items. Locating of items to assist customers, work practices to prepare, arrange or stack items together while maintaining safety for patrons and other employees. Preparing, arranging, or stacking items together for safety and neatness; rotating old stock. Operating a forklift. Physical requirements: (1) The work requires continuous walking, standing, bending, or stooping, and using arm movements to fill the store's shelves and counters. (3) While operating a forklift, the incumbent uses moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping the forklift. Work environment: Most of the work is performed in the store display areas which are well lighted and maintained at a comfortable temperature. The store aisles are often crowded with customers and grocery carts. When working in the storage area or loading dock, the incumbent may be exposed to hot or cold weather or damp or drafty conditions. May be exposed to differences in temperatures in storing or obtaining items in refrigerated rooms. There is a danger of minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and bruises, or heat sealer bums. In addition, while operating a forklift, the incumbent may receive cuts, bruises and broken bones from shifting loads, toppling stacks, overturning forklifts, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.
